According to a report of the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat
Janne Ahonen suffered a knee injury in his first
jump at a national competition in Lahti on Saturday
and will have to undergo surgery this week.
The 37-year-old twisted the knee at the landing
of his first jump and therefore he had to skip the
final round and could also not take part in the
second competition on his home hill on Sunday.
In an MRI scan on Tuesday a strained collateral
ligament and an injury of the meniscus were diagnosed,
which will force him to undergo endoscopic surgery
in a hospital in Helsinki on Friday.
"If everything goes the best possible way and
it's only a minor procedure, I will be able to train
again in about a week", Ahonen said on iltasanomal.fi.
Depending on the course of the surgery a break of
up to one month might be neccessary.
