With a home win in this season's final World Cup
competition, Peter Prevc took the second place in
the overall World Cup. After an exciting final,
Severin Freund closely missed the win and ends the
season in third of the overall ranking.
The third place on Sunday went to Norway's Anders
Bardal. Overall World Cup winner Kamil Stoch finished
fourth. It was a great fight between Freund and
Prevc for the second place overall. With 136 m Freund
was fourth after the first round, Prevc third. A
result that would have been enough for the German.
In the final Freund jumped on the hill record mark
of 141 m and with 280.8 points he almost looked
like the winner.
Victory with hill record
But Prevc fought back and showed probably his best
jump this season with 142 m, to the joy of the fans
at the hill. With 283.7 points he took the lead.
Anders Bardal, second after the first round with
138.5 m, jumped on 136.5 m in the final and was
third with 278.5 points, Kamil Stoch missed the
podium by only 0.1 points with his jumps on 139
m and 136 m. Stoch: “I'm satisfied with my
jumps, but I was lacking the luck. That's why I'm
only fourth. I wanted to be on the podium today
to have a very good end of the season. I'm very
happy that I now get the crystal globe. The expectations
will not be smaller in the future.” Noriaki
Kasai came in fifth today with 134.5 m and 133 m
(267.8 points), he is also fifth in the overall
ranking.
Kofler best Austrian
Best Austrian at the season's final was Andreas
Kofler, who jumped on 133.5 m and 134.5 m and with
262.9 points he came in 1.8 points ahead of Andreas
Stjernen, who jumped on 134 m and 135.5 m. The two
Austrians Gregor Schlierenzauer (261.0 points) and
Stefan Kraft (258.2 points) finished eighth and
ninth. For Jernej Damjan a successful season ended
well with the tenth place (257.7 points). Thomas
Diethart, who is the shooting star of the season
after he won the 4-Hills-Tournament, was twelfth,
behind Anders Fannemel. Piotr Zyla and Maciej Kot
achieved good results for Poland in 13th and 15th,
Michael Hayboeck was 14th.
Bjoern Einar Romoeren retires
Also for Bjoern Einar Romoeren the season ended
on a high note, he shared the 16th place with Japanese
Reruhi Shimizu and announced that he will end his
career. Jakub Janda, who decided to continue his
career, was 18th, ahead of Jurij Tepes. Richard
Freitag and his teammate Markus Eisenbichler came
in 21st and 22nd. Simon Ammann ended the season
with a 26th place, Denis Kornilov scored one point
for Russia in 30th.
Austria wins Nation's Cup
Kamil Stoch won the overall World Cup title ahead
of Peter Prevc and Severin Freund. Anders Bardal
was fourth, Noriaki Kasai fifth. Defending Champion
Schlierenzauer was sixth and third in the ski flying
World Cup, behind Kasai and Prevc. The Austrian
team won the Nation's Cup, even though they couldn't
celebrate an individual win in the World Cup since
the 4-Hills final in Bischofshofen. But thanks to
strong team performances they came in ahead of Germany
and Slovenia.
