The first Nordic Combined TRIPLE is history and now the focus has turned to the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The winter's dominating nations of Germany and Norway announced their respective starters for Sochi.
In Germany, newly minted TRIPLE champion and overall World Cup leader Eric Frenzel will lead the team consisting of Johannes Rydzek, Tino Edelmann, Fabian Rießle and veteran Björn Kircheisen to Russia. Kircheisen was being preferred over the young jumping specialist Tobias Haug who had fulfilled the qualification criteria with his 14th place from Friday. In the end, head coach Hermann Weinbuch decided in favour of Kircheisen due to his strength on the cross-country track, a useful feat on Sochi's tough course.
Strong competition will come from Norway. The Scandinavian nation is sending TRIPLE podium finishers Magnus Moan and Haavard Klemetsen as well as Joergen Graabak, Magnus Krog and Mikko Kokslien into battle. Out of these five athletes, every single one has claimed at least two podiums already this winter.
