As one of the last teams, the German Ski Federation
has named their starters for the upcoming World
Cup in Kuusamo.
World Champion and World Cup overall winner Eric
Frenzel will be joined by Tino Edelmann, Bjo"rn
Kircheisen, Johannes Rydzek, Manuel Fai?t, Fabian
Rie?le, Tobias Haug, Jakob Lange und David Welde.
After profiting from the early ski jumping season
opening in Klingenthal last weekend where the Nordic
Combined team was able to make their first snow
jumps, the German squad will travel to Kuusamo tomorrow.
National coach Hermann Weinbuch is satisfied with
the performance of his team so far: "We are
well prepared for the season start. Due to our training
plan, the athletes will not be completely explosive
on the track as they will hopefully be in Sochi
but I am quite happy with the current level of performance.
I am sure the last polishing will come with the
competitions ahead of us."
His athletes all agree that it's great that the
season is getting under way now but are also aware
of the difficulties that the venue of Kuusamo poses.
Tino Edelmann: "Everything's possible in Kuusamo
because the hill is not easy to jump and can have
difficult conditions. The track is one of the hardest
ones in the World Cup. If it is very cold and the
snow a little blunt, we will see who is in the best
shape very quickly."
Nordic Combined superstar Eric Frenzel even utters
a tiny challenge: "My preparation went very
well, especially those last snow jumps in Klingenthal.
I am jumping on a good level, therefore it will
be a relaxed trip to Kuusamo for me! I feel my regeneration
after the many many training units in fall has gone
very well, too, so I even have a certain level of
expectations now. All signs point towards a very
good start of the World Cup for me."
