There are just about 100 days to go before the Winter
Olympics in Russia. Once again this year, athletes
from the North Country are expected to be in the
running for medals.
Serious contenders from our region will be Nordic
combined skier Billy Demong, a gold medalist four
years ago in Vancouver.
Also, biathlon racer Tim Burke, downhill skier Andrew
Weibrecht, Nordic combined skier Annelies Cook,
of Saranac Lakeand and long-distance ski jumper
Peter Frenette.
Adirondack Daily Enterprise sports and outdoor reporter
Mike Lynch sat down this week with Adirondack bureau
chief Brian Mann to talk about the Olympic season
that's just ahead.
Lynch covered the Flaming Leaves jumping competition
earlier this month in Lake Placid and says that
race was a big warm-up event — especially for skier
Billy Demong from Vermontville who may retire after
this year's Olympics.
