The first Continental Cup competition in Klingenthal
ended with a win for Poland. Klemens Muranka won
ahead of Mikhail Maksimochkin of Russia and Austrian
Thomas Diethart.
Klemens Muranka posted a jump on 133.5 m in the
first round and was in striking distance to the
podium as fifth. With 132.5 m he then showed the
best performance in the final and took the win.
For the 19-year-old, who is considered an outstanding
talent in Poland since he was a kid, this was his
first win in the COC.
"I'm very happy today, it was the first win
of my career. My jumps were good and the conditions
were as well. I want to thank all my coaches and
the team", said the winner.
Mikhail Maksimochkin achieved the best result of
his career as second, but even more was possible.
The young Russian had a great first jump on 142
m, but he could not repeat this performance in the
final and landed already after 119.5 m (248.2 points).
But still, this second place is a great success
for him.
The third place went to Austrian Thomas Diethart
with 134.5 m and 125.5 m (246.5 points). The best
German, Marinus Kraus, jumped on 131.5 m and 128.5
m and missed the podium in front of his home crowd
by only 0.5 points.
It was a close competition also on the following
positions. Michael Hayboeck of Austria (5th) and
Poland's Krzysztof Mietus (6th) came in only 0.6
and 0.7 points behind third-placed Diethart.
Bartlomiej Klusek (7th) and Aleksander Zniszczol
(9th) completed the once again very good result
of the Polish team. Also Italian Roberto Dellasega
will be happy with his eighth place in this competition.
Before the final COC competition of the summer,
Jakub Janda is leading the overall ranking with
401 points. Marinus Kraus is second with 364 points,
followed by Poland's Krzysztof Biegun (292 points).
