The Czech Ski Association also held its summer nationals
on this past weekend at Liberec and as last year,
team leader Miroslav Dvorak captured the title.
This year, however, Dvorak had some tough competition
in team youngster Tomas Portyk who gave Dvorak a
run for his money until the end. With the second
rank in the overall standings, the win in the junior
category and - showcasing Portyk’s jumping qualities
- also the win in the special jumping junior category,
the weekend certainly also went to Tomas Portyk’s
liking. The third rank in the Nordic Combined competition
went to Lukas Danek.
Portyk jumped 100 metres on Liberec’s HS 100 Jested
hill and led the jumping competitions by far with
130.5 points and a time advantage for the roller-ski
race of one minute and six seconds on second-placed
Tomas Vancura who jumped 90 metres (114 p.). The
third rank after jumping went to Petr Kutal who
landed at 89 metres (110.5 p.). Dvorak only held
a sixth rank after jumping and was one minute and
42 seconds behind Portyk at the start of the roller-skiing
competition.
In the end, Tomas Portyk did not have the stamina
on the track to hold off the experienced Miroslav
Dvorak who finally finished 8.6 seconds earlier
than Portyk after roller-skiing 10 kilometres. Lukas
Danek showed one of the fastest performances on
the track and skied from an intermediate 11th rank
to a final third position, finishining 41.3 seconds
after Dvorak.
Ranks four to six went to team veteran Pavel Churavy,
Petr Kutal and Ondrej Pazout who obtained the third
rank in the junior category with this result, behind
Portyk and Danek.
