It was a successful weekend for brothers Kail and
Han Hendrik Piho from Estonia who joined the Norwegian
Nordic Combined athletes at their first Norges Cup
weekend in Oslo - and claimed the two victories!
After no jumping was possible on Saturday due to
too much wind, 22 contestants started in the traditional
„Sognsvanntest“, a running race from Sognsvann up
to Frognerseteren in Oslo. The win in the race went
to Kail Piho who needed 26:50 for the distance and
just managed to beat Norwegian Lars Halvdan Buraas
who finished only one second later. The third rank
went to Ole Martin Storlien who finished 13 seconds
after Piho. National team member Mikko Kokslien
finished fourth, 42 seconds after the winner.
After half of the competitors had started in the
jumping competition on Midstubakken, the round had
to be cancelled because of the wind conditions again.
All participants then started in a 10 kilometre
roller ski race at Holmenkollen in which Han Hendrik
Piho was successful. With a time of 20:24, he was
37 seconds faster than Olympic gold medallist Joergen
Graabak who claimed the second place. The third
rank went to Kail Piho who finished 48 seconds after
his younger brother. National team members Jan Schmid
and Mikko Kokslien ranked fourth and fifth out of
the 22 competitors, finishing 55 seconds and one
minute and two seconds after Piho.
