Too strong wind on day 2 -
Severin Freund is World Champion
At the end all the waiting was in vain: The second
day of competition, the third and fourth round of
the individual competition, at the ski flying World
Championships in Harrachov became a victim of the
winds.
After various delays, a canceled trial round and
the postponement of the start from 4:00 pm to 6:15
pm the jury canceled the competition.
Severin Freund is ski flying World Champion
This means that Severin Freund is the new ski flying
World Champion, the first German to win this title
since Sven Hannawald in 2002. "I prepared myself
to jump today because I heard that the weather forecast
is better in the evening. Unfortunately we couldn't
jump. It's always nice to have competitions, but
safety is most important. It's my best season and
this Gold medal is very special." After only
two instead of four rounds Silver and Bronze went
to Anders Bardal and Peter Prevc. "I'm satisfied
with the result. I wanted to fight for the win with
Severin today, but the weather made it impossible.
We heard that the conditions would be better in
the evening, but unfortunately that didn't happen",
Bardal said on Saturday. "I was expecting more
from myself here. Since the 4-Hills-Tournament my
jumps were getting better and better and everything
went according to plan. The season is not over yet,
but so far it was really good for me", told
Prevc.
Noriaki Kasai finished fourth, double Olympic Champion
Kamil Stoch fifth. Roman Koudelka was the best Czech
in sixth, behind Anders Fannemel, Dimitry Vassiliev
came in on a surprising eighth place. Thomas Diethart
was the best Austrian in ninth, Maciej Kot completed
the Top 10.
