Takanashi's winning streak continues in Chaikovsky

Sara Takanashi also took the win in the fourth ladies' World Cup competition this season. The Japanese won the first of two competitions in Chaikovsky (RUS) with jumps on 99 m and 96.5 m and 232.6 points close ahead of Germany's Carina Vogt. With 100.5 m and 98.5 m, Vogt came in only 0.9 points behind the winner. Local hero Irina Avvakumova was third and achieved her third podium result in a row.

"I was not jumping as well as I can, but I’m happy with the result. I try to do better for tomorrow", Takanashi said afterwards. Carina Vogt was also very satisfied with her performance: ”This was pretty cool.  Jumping in training this morning was not that easy. I improved in the competition and it’s my best World Cup result, that's great.”

In southern Russia, Avvakumova jumped on 103 m and 93 m and with 225.2 points she finished 6.5 points ahead of French Coline Mattel, who was fourth achieved her best result this season so far. It was a good for the local hero, but she wants to achieve more on Saturday. ”This was a good day despite it was cold. The atmosphere was great in front of my home crowd. We have a new day tomorrow, I hope it will be even better.”

The fifth place went to the best Slovene, Ema Klinec, with 213.9 points, followed by Norwegian Gyda Enger (209.1 points), who came in on a career best sixth place. Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, second in the overall World Cup, was seventh in this competition. 

Germany's Ramona Straub also achieved her best result this season, she was ninth, behind Norwegian Maren Lundby. In absence of veteran Ulrike Graessler Katharina Althaus completed the good team result for Germany in tenth. Graessler is sick and can't compete in Chaikovsky, but she shall return to the team for the competitions in Japan.

Behind French Julia Clair and Katja Pozun, Finland's Julia Kykkaenen was 13th. Line Jahr of Norway and Swiss Bigna Windmueller completed the Top 15. With Evelyn Insam, Elena Runggaldier, Manuela Malsiner and Lisa Demetz, four Italian athletes qualified for the final, but they came in only 16th, 17th, 23rd and 27th. Malsinser scored World Cup points for the first time this season. Michaela Dolezelova scored some points for the Czech team in 25th. 

Svenja Wuerth, who fell in training, suffered a vertebral injury. "The affected vertebrae was fixed. Svenja is doing well under the circumstances, she shows no sign of paralysis", said head coach Andreas Bauer. 

The second competition in Chaikovsky takes place on Saturday at 12:30 pm CET.
