Ammann can be first Swiss jumper to win back-to-back 4H events

>>

Simon Ammann (SUI) won the Four Hills opener in Oberstdorf and goes for his second straight win on Wednesday.

>>

Ammann can become the first Swiss man to win back-to-back Four Hills events or to win two Four Hills events in one season.

>>

Ammann can also win back-to-back World Cup events for the first time in nearly four years, since he won five in a row in Feb-Mar 2010 (eight events in a row in total including his two Olympic triumphs and his ski flying world championship gold).

>>

If Ammann wins in Garmisch, it will be the 19th time that one jumper has won both German hills in the same season. On 12 of the previous 18 occasions, the jumper who won both German hills has gone on to win the tournament.

>>

Of the six occasions in which a jumper won both hills in Germany and did not win the tournament, the most recent was just last season, when Anders Jacobsen (NOR) won the first two hills but came second in the tournament to Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT).

>>

Ammann, who won in Garmisch in 2011, has three Four Hills victories in Germany. If he makes it four on Wednesday, he will tie Bjorn Wirkola (NOR), Janne Ahonen (FIN) and Martin Schmitt (GER). Only Jens Wei?flog (GDR/GER, 6) and Schlierenzauer (5) have more than four Four Hills victories in Germany.

>>

Ammann has never won a Four Hills event in Austria. If he wins in Garmisch on Wednesday, he will become the third man to record four or more Four Hills victories in one country without any victories in the other. Schmitt has four Four Hills wins in Germany and none in Austria, while Andreas Goldberger (AUT) recorded five Four Hills victories in Austria and none in Germany.

>>

Ammann has 12 podiums in Four Hills events. If he is in the top three on Wednesday, he can join Thomas Morgenstern (AUT) and Noriaki Kasai (JPN) in equal sixth place with 13 Four Hills podiums, unless one or both of them also make the podium.

Schlierenzauer can equal record with 4th 4H win in Garmisch

>>

Gregor Schlierenzauer can win for a record-equalling fourth time at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Wei?flog won here four times, the highest number of wins by an individual on any 4HT hill.

>>

Schlierenzauer can also equal Wei?flog's record of six Four Hills wins in (West) Germany.

>>

Since 2008, Schlierenzauer has won Garmisch every other year. According to this rhythm, it is his turn to win again this year.

>>

Schlierenzauer will make his second attempt at his ninth Four Hills podium in Germany, which would take him past Eino Kirjonen (FIN) into outright fourth, behind Wei?flog (16), Ahonen (11) and Goldberger (10).

>>

Schlierenzauer has never finished outside the top four in the six times he has competed at Garmisch during the Four Hills.

Bardal can set record for most 4H podiums without a win

>>

Anders Bardal (NOR) came second in Oberstdorf on Sunday for his fifth Four Hills podium.

>>

Bardal now shares the record of five Four Hills podiums without a victory with Anatoli Sheglanov (URS) and Otto Leodolter (AUT). All three men have the same Four Hills podium record: no golds, three silvers and two bronzes.

>>

Bardal can therefore become the only man to have six or more Four Hills podiums without a victory if he comes second or third on Wednesday.

>>

If Bardal makes the podium on Wednesday, he will have the second most Four Hills podiums among Norwegian jumpers behind Wirkola (18). Currently, Bardal's five Four Hills podiums are equal with Jacobsen, Espen Bredesen, Per Bergerud and Ingolf Mork among Norwegians.
