The preparations for the World Cup opening of the
ski jumpers in Klingenthal entered the crucial phase.
"Everything goes according to plan, we began
to prepare the hill and we will start the snow cannons
tonight as temperatures of about -5°C are expected.
This is enough to produce artificial snow in addition
to the snow of the depot", Alex Ziron, head
of the organizing committee, told FISskijumping.com.
"We are confident, that we will experience
a great weekend of ski jumping at the World Cup
opening on the weekend after next", Ziron added.
A huge snow depot was set up in Klingenthal, directly
in the Vogtland-Arena, already during last winter
in order to have the necessary snow to prepare the
hill at such an early point of the winter (November
23rd and 24th). In the same way, the organizers
of the World Cup event in Sochi (RUS) last winter,
were able to carry out two competitions with temperatures
of over +10°C. A snow depot was also set up at the
"Hochfirstschanze" in Titisee-Neustadt
(GER). The competitions in Neustadt will be held
on December 14th and 15th.
