Alpensia Nordic Center - NordicFocus
At the end of October 2013, FIS Race Directors Pierre
Mignerey and Lasse Ottesen made their first site
inspection at PyeongChang (KOR), the host of the
Olympic Winter Games in 2018.
The meeting was scheduled following fruitful discussions
with PyeongChang 2018 representatives during the
FIS Technical Meetings in Zurich (SUI) in early
October.
While in PyeongChang, the duo met with the sports
managers for each discipline and conducted an on-site
inspection at the Alpensia Nordic Center, the future
venue of the Olympic Cross-Country, Ski Jumping
and Nordic Combined competitions. During the visit,
the requirements for the disciplines were defined
and further elaborated in a round-table discussion.
The Alpensia Nordic Centre, which is already built,
has hosted several national and a few international
events, and is scheduled to host the official FIS
World Cups that will serve as test events in the
2016/2017 season.
Upon his return, Ottesen said: “In PyeongChang we
have seen one of the most compact Nordic venues
which will be a great location for the 2018 Winter
Olympics. We have a good first impression and are
very pleased to have met with the Cross-Country,
Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined managers, and are
looking forward to a close and productive cooperation
with the PyeongChang 2018 Organising Committee.”
