Klemens Muranka wins this
summer's last qualification
Klemens Muranka of Poland won the qualification
round in the Vogtland-Arena with a jump on 137 m
and 139.1 points.
His teammate Dawid Kubacki jumped on meter farther
than the 19-year-old, but under slightly better
conditions, and so he came in second with 137.1
points. With 135.1 points, the third place went
to Mackenzie Boyd-Clowes of Canada, who also posted
a great jump with 135 m.
Andreas Wank closely missed the Top 3, he was the
best German as fourth with 133.5 m (133.4 points).
His two young teammates Marinus Kraus and Jan Maylaender
also showed strong performances and came in seventh
and ninth.
Gregor Schlierenzauer was by far the best Austrian
in this qualification as fifth, right behind last
winter's overall World Cup winner, Italian Roberto
Dellasega surprised on a very good sixth place.
After a tenth months break due to a serious knee
injury, Finland's Janne Happonen made his comeback
on the international stage here in Klingenthal.
With 126.5 m he was 22nd, one place behind his compatriot
Janne Ahonen.
Martin Schmitt came in only 49th and was the only
one of the 12 German jumpers who failed to make
the cut for the home competition on Thursday. Also
Manuel Fettner, Robert Kranjec and Jaka Hvala will
only be spectators at the final event of the summer
season.
The longest jump of the day was shown by the already
pre-qualified Maciej Kot of Poland with 141 m. With
this performance he was clearly the best of the
Top 10 of the overall ranking. Andreas Wellinger
followed mit 133.5 m, overall leader Jernej Damjan
landed at 125 m.
