The 19-year-old tore her anterior cruciate ligament
and medial colleteral ligament and also injured
the meniscus when she fell at the landing of the
longest jump of her career so far on 148 m. Now
she is working on her comeback for hours every day
in rehabilitation. At the Olympic media summit she
now spoke about her goal to get fit again just in
time for the upcoming Olympics.
"My goal right now is, in January, I'll be
jumping. I want so badly to walk into the Opening
Ceremony. That's what's getting me up in the morning",
told Hendrickson, who was also looking back on the
time right after the fall. "It was pretty devastating,
I won't sugarcoat it. I was on such a good path,
I was jumping so well. That's really hard. But you
can only be sad for so long and then you have to
pick yourself up and work back and fight against
your odds."
The time immediately after the inury was especially
difficult for the overall World Cup winner of the
2011/12 season, but still she was able to keep her
positive attitude. "In the beginning it was
very hard to stay positive. Half of you, you just
want to give up. But that is completely against
my whole nature" so Sarah Hendrickson to the
"Salt Lake Tribune". "Things don't
go completely as planned always. So you just have
to fight back, stay strong and still strive for
that goal that you have."
