Ema Klinec won both Continental Cups in Lillehammer
and so also the overall Summer CoC. Comeback of
Helena Olsson Smeby.
Next to the Grand Prix competitions in Nizhny Taghil
also two Continental Cups were held this weekend
in Lillehammer. 19 jumpers from the United States,
Canada, Slovenia, Germany, Finland and the hosting
nation Norway competed there. For the entire Norwegian
team these competitions were the first ones of this
summer and it its very nice to note, that a handful
of debutantes had the chance to compete there.
Winner on both days came Slovenia's Ema Klinec.
She won the competition on Saturday with jumps of
102.5 and 99.5 meters. Second ranked Jessica Jerome
of America, who jumped 93.0 meters twice, was 30
points behind of her. Line Jahr from Norway came
third with jumps of 89.0 and 93.0 meters.
Fourth that day came Helena Olsson Smeby with jumps
of 90.0 and 97.0 meters. The 29 year old Olsson
Smeby was one of the pioneering jumpers, that attended
the first Ladies Ski Jumping competition ever in
1998 ins St. Moritz. After quitting her career in
2005 she made a comeback in 2008 - and since jumped
for Norway instead of her native country Sweden.
In 2009 she stopped jumping again and now starts
her second comeback. The fifth place on Saturday
was taken by Norway's Maren Lundby (87.5 and 92.5
m), sixth came Barbara Klinec from Slovenia with
jumps of 87.0 and 93.0 meters.
In the competition on Sunday Klinec jumped 91.0
and 90.0 meters to take victory. Second came Jahr
by jumping of 83.5 meters twice. Jerome came third
with jumps of 83.0 and 85.0 meters. The fourth place
was taken by Lundby who jumped 74.5 and 84.5 meters.
Fifth that day came Olsson Smeby with jumps of 77.5
and 81.5 meters. Sixt place was taken by Germany's
Gianina Ernst who jumped 76.5 and 80.5 meters.
These were the only two Continental Cups of this
Summer, as the competitions that were planned to
be held in Gerardmer in August had to be cancelled.
This means, that Klinec won the overall Continental
Cup of this summer. The second place in this ranking
is shared by Jerome and Lahr.
