A week after the Championships on the normal hill
in Szczyrk, the Polish Champion on the large hill
was crowned in Zakopane on Sunday.
The title went to Jan Ziobro, who is presenting
himself in a very good shape this summer and gained
some attention also with strong performances and
a third place in the Grand Prix in Hakuba.
The 22-year-old was already in the lead after the
first round with his 128.5 m and defended this position
with 130 m in the final and a total of 263.8 points.
"You always compete to win. But in order to
win, everything needs to come into the right place
at the right time. Today was my day. I jumped really
well and I am really happy with the result. I have
been having a relatively good summer, my form is
getting better and better. I wanted to thank my
coaches for helping me with my preparations. In
general, the whole team is very supportive. My plans
for the winter …. to jump as well as possible, I
am not thinking of Sochi, it’s still too early to
speculate,” said today’s winner.
Maciej Kot, only eighth after his first jump on
125 m, could improve his performance in the second
round and with 129.5 m he moved up to the second
place overall. "I have not been jumping very
well recently, this results from the hard training
phase we are currently in. Hence, the weaker form.
Today’s conditions on the hill were close to perfect,
almost the same for everyone.”
Also Dawid Kubacki, the normal hill champion, showed
a better jump in the final round. With 126.5 m he
moved up from seventh to third.
Klemens Muranka missed the podium by only 0.2 points
and as fourth he came in one place ahead of Kamil
Stoch. The World Champion shared the first place
after the first round with Ziobro, but 122 m in
the final were not good enough to remain in the
leading position.
