While the two Summer Grand Prix starters Szczepan
Kupczak and Pawel Slowiok were still on their way
back from the last competition in Oberstdorf, the
rest of the team and also some international starters
had a competition in Szczyrk which also counted
as the Polish summer national championships.
After the ski jumping part, Czech Tomas Vancura
had been in the lead with a good jump of 100 metres
which gave him 124 points and a 12-second-lead on
Jan Lowisz. Wantulok followed in third position,
his acquired 114,5 points meaning a 38-second time
disadvantage on Vancura and 12 seconds on Lowisz.
Vancura's teammate Petr Kutal who also starts for
ski club Dukla Liberec claimed an intermediate sixth
rank which he was going to improve pretty soon.
Kutal set the fastest cross-country time of 22:15.2
for the 10-kilometres which meant the first place
for the Czech starter who was skiing together with
Watulok for most of the race but managed to go past
the young Polish athlete on the last lap. In the
end, 8 seconds separated the international winner
and the Polish national champion at the finish line.
The silver medal went to Wojciech Marusarz (+16.3),
bronze to Jan Lowisz (+21,2). For all three Polish
athletes, it were the first national championship
medals of their careers.
