After a very successful last winter, the Slovenian
national team returned back to the hills again this
week.
Except Jernej Damjan, the team of head coach Goran
Janus made the first jumps of the season on the
normal hill in Villach (AUT).
"We start from scratch"
Despite a very good first season as head coach,
with the ski flying World Championship title and
the victory in the ski flying World Cup of Robert
Kranjec, the bronze medal for the team at the ski
flying World Championships and a record number of
points in the Nation’s Cup, Janus remains modest
at the start of the jumping training. “We still
have a lot of work to do. The guys are motivated,
but we are only at the beginning and start from
scratch again”, Janus told on siol.net.
After there were some financial problems last year,
the Slovenian Ski Association now decided about
the budgets for next season. “At the moment we have
a bit less than ˆ 800 000, our goal is to reach
one million and we are confident that we can reach
that. If we do, then we will have a similar amount
of money than last year”, Tomaz Verdnik of the Slovenian
Association said to siol.net.
But, according to Verdnik, the team will have to
face additional costs. “With the new World Cup calendar
we will have to spend ˆ 20 000 more for flight tickets
and if the changes concerning the suits are confirmed
it will cost additional ˆ 20 000. The guys save
at every step.”
