Bad luck for the organizers of the World Cup events
in Harrachov. Last year the competitions could not
take place due to a lack of snow. This year the
wind was the problem.
The jury postponed the competition various times
but the conditions didn't get better. Strong gusts
and constantly changing winds made a ski jumping
competition impossible. "We had no chance to
hold a competition here this weekend", said
FIS race director Walter Hofer.
So the athletes had to leave without any results.
The Czech president came to Harrachov on Saturday,
but he also had no influence on the gods of the
wind.
Gregor Schlierenzauer, Janne Ahonen, Michael Uhrmann
and the Polish jumpers who preferred to train at
home instead of travelling to the Czech Republic
made the right decision. The nex World Cup events
will take place next weekend in Engelberg (SUI).
The organizers in Harrachov will get their next
chance right after the 4-Hills-Tournament when the
ski flying competitions will be held.
