Austrian Christoph Bieler beat
compatriot Felix Gottwald to win the Nordic combined
World Cup event in Val di Fiemme Saturday.
After finishing 25th and more than a minute behind
in the 10-kilometre mass start in 25 minutes 39.1
seconds, Bieler jumped 98 metres and 101 metres
to garner 241.7 points.
Double Olympic champion Gottwald totalled 238.2
points with Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis third
on 237.5 points.
It was the third World Cup win of the season for
Bieler who goes into the lead overall on 496 points,
ahead of Finland's Hannu Manninen (455), who finished
sixth.
Magnus Moan of Norway, who was fifth behind compatriot
Havard Klemetsen, is third overall on 428 points.
The Nordic combined World Cup continues Sunday in
Val di Fiemme with the team combined.
