Andreas Kuettel's top first jump
was good enough to win the second of the Four Hills
after Garmisch's second round was cancelled due
to weather on Monday.
Kuettel had a jump of 125.5 metres and 135.9 points
in windy and rainy conditions at the German resort.
Kuettel had been a distant second to Austrian teenager
Gregor Schlierenzauer in the opening event at Oberstdorf
on Saturday.
Matti Hautamaki of Finland was second with 133 points
and Moriaki Kasai of Japan took third with 132.9
-- despite having the longest jump of the day at
128 metres.
"I was warming up for the second round when
people started coming over to congratulate me,"
Kuettel told Germany's RTL television after organisers
called off the second jump. "I had no idea
what happened. It's great. The conditions were getting
difficult. I had a good jump."
Schlierenzauer, 16, was fourth with 129.4 points
from his jump of 123 metres. It was good enough
for him to maintain the overall Four Hills lead,
three points (or the equivalent of 1.66m) ahead
of Kuettel after two of the four events.
Schlierenzauer also remains atop the World Cup standings.
The event moves to Austria for the third leg in
Innsbruck on Wednesday and the final leg in Bischofshofen
on Sunday -- which is Schlierenzauer's 17th birthday.
